The Drowsy Chaperone will be produced on June 27, 28 and 29, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the RCHS Lecture Hall. This is a returning musical venue for The Carnegie Players, allowing for a more personal setting as befitting this 1920’s jazz era, comedic comedy. The Drowsy Chaperone is a “comedy within a musical”, and is crammed full of every cliché, gag and gimmick from the golden age of musicals.
The story concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre fan. As he plays the record of his favorite (fictional) 1928 musical hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage as he wryly
comments on the music, story and actors.
The Drowsy Chaperone debuted in 1998 at The Rivoli in Toronto and opened on Broadway on May 1, 2006. It has received numerous awards on Broadway and worldwide. The musical is a light, toe tapping show that will bring jazz back to Rensselaer.
Tickets will be available soon from any cast member, The Carnegie Players Board of Directors, Willow Switch or at JORDAN’S. Tickets in advance are $9.00 per person and $10.00 at the door or on line at http://www.thecarnegieplayers.org.
